Frequently Asked Questions
What is Counseling?
Counseling takes place when you, as an individual, couple or family, use the services of a professional counselor to help you resolve problems in your life.
The counselor provides a healthy environment for exploration and healing. In some cases this may include exploration of deep psychological issues and past trauma; in others it may include simpler problem solving, gaining insight, practicing life skills, and enhancing your ability to express yourself emotionally.
Do I really need therapy?
My belief is that every human being alive can benefit from therapy at some point in their lives. It's not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength. It takes tremendous courage to ask for help. I prefer to look at the therapuetic relationship as a partnership in healing or goal achievement.
How long do I have to wait to get in for an appointment?
From the time of the first contact, your intial apppointment will typically occur within 7 days. Typically the appointment occurs within two days after the initial phone call/email.
Do you accept insurance?
I am on a variety of insurance panels. During the intial appointment we can discuss whether or not you want me to submit this to your insurance. Some clients decide, for a variety of reasons, that they do not want to bill their insurance. In those instances, other arrangements can be made.
How long do appointments last?
A typical appointment is 50 minutes.
